Canes land two big recruits today

Im starting to feel sorta old today guys, Im proud to say Damien Berry from Belle Glade HS in Florida will be attending the U. Berry who plays corner, safety, and wide receiver is the son of former cane Kenny Berry(87-89).

This morning Chris Perry, a monster DT(6'3 320lbs) from Texas committed to Miami after cancelling trips to Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Texas.

To go along with the news of Damien Berry's committing, Berry has stated that he and Deonte Thompson(one of the top 4 receivers in america) will be a package deal and Thompson will likely come to Miami with his cousin Berry.

Also of note, Kayne(pronounced Cane) Farquharson, the top receiver in the JUCO ranks will be committing to Miami as soon as he is closer to being finished with JUCO. He has already received an offer from Cal Berkeley so he is elgible for entrance to Miami.

Besides Berry and Perry, Miami has already received verbals from Phelon Jones, the top player in alabama, Harland Gunn, the top player and offensive lineman from nebraska, and 4 star qb from Texas, Nick "Uzzi" Fanuzzi.

Last, of Rivals top 150, 47% of the non committals have interest in Miami as medium to high interest. The offense in particular is finally on the right track with regards to the new coaching staff getting the types of players they need. Mario Cristabol is one of the best recruiters in the land outdueling Bowden, Meyer, and Miles for the players he recruited last year.

wow, thats actually the type of stuff that got miami put on probation in the 90s. We had a players dad working in the accounting offices. Hopefully the kid is nothing like that.

Re: Canes land two big recruits today

That's excellent news. Also, besides Deonte Thompson on that same WR corps, there's a guy named Taurus McKinley (also from Belle Glades Central), who will likely end up being a 3-star guy, but is 5'11, 175, runs a 4.4 40, and is said to have good hands and be a small but quick possession type receiver. Sounds like another Santana/Scoe/Smurfnorice to me. (btw--I edited because this censored T ana. wtf?)

Also, I read where Perry wants to get quicker--he's over 300lbs, and has said he wants to get his 40 time from 5.3 to sub 5. 300+ lbs stopping the run and rushing the passer at 4.9 speed--I can live with that--we haven't really had that exact kind of speed & size at DT in the same player since Warren Sapp, who just so happens to be this kid's hero and who he models himself after...go figure.

Farquarson, Thompson, and McKinley, combined with Sam Shields & George Robinson coming in this year would be huge for our WR ills. I'd still like to get another QB in this class though...

P.S.--when asked to compare Farquarson to another WR, new Canes OC Rich Olson compared him to Chad Johnson--not just in the fact that they both took the JUCO route to get to a D1 school, but also in their skill set, size, and spirit. He's the one WR recruit I'd love to get. Jay Smith, the WR from VA who's the #95 overall Rivals' prospect would be great as well. I'm thinking a class with Farquarson, Thompson, McKinley, and Smith would cure most of Miami's ills on the offensive side of the ball b/c we already have good future TE's in Dajleon Farr & Dedrick Epps.

Re: Canes land two big recruits today

If you Miami and Clemson fans want to see some of your recruits square off then check out the ESPN game August 26th 12:00 noon between Glades Central vs Byrnes High School. Glades has those kids like Damien Berry and Deonte Thompson. It is the school that produced Fred Taylor,Reidel Anthony and Johnny Rutledge on that 96 Florida team. Glades always has great athletes.

The Byrnes team that Glades is playing has won 4 state titles in a row in South Carolina. That was done in the big school division. They run a no huddle shotgun to perfection. They have 2 upcoming seniors that have commited to Clemson. Will Korn is the #3 prospect in the nation. He is the #2 ranked quarterback behind Jimmy Clausen. Stanley Hunter is a slash linebacker/Def End.

Byrnes plays in those summer passing leagues. My nephew coached at Anderson County in Tennessee. They played Byrnes in a passing league game at UT. Brynes killed them. Byrnes freshmen team beat Anderson County's varsity. Byrnes brought 4 passing teams and they all finished 1-4. My nephew said they were amazing. When he found out they were playing Montgomerey Bell Academy at Vandy Stadium he said he had to go see them. We all drove to Vandy to see that game.

MBA had a good team. They were good enought to beat the 4A Kentucky State champs in Trinity Christian. That is where Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm went to school. MBA has never shied away from playing powerhouse teams. They played Dobyns Bennett twice a few years ago. They also played teams like Jacksonville Bolles. MBA was good enough last year to beat the Super 7 runner up Memphis Christian Brothers a week after Christian Brothers beat Memphis Melrose. As a Maryville fan I saw how tough Melrose was. MBA is a member of the super 7. The Super 7 is the toughest conference in the state of Tennessee. So MBA was a good team.

MBA was no match for Byrnes as Byrnes won 62-14. Byrnes let up or they could have won 80 or 90 points. When Byrnes had their 1st string in MBA never got a 1st down. In my 30 plus years of watching high school football I never saw a team that good. They were nationally ranked for a reason. My nephew told me that I was getting ready to watch something I never sen. He described Byrnes as having Melrose type athletes with coaching better than Maryvilles. He was right on the money. On offense Byrnes runs the no huddle to perfection. Will Korn was by far the best high school quarterback I ever seen. He could run like a deer and had a strong arm. He was very accurate. The receivers ran perfect routes. This offense was beautiful to watch. They had good tailbacks that could run the ball.

On defense Byrnes defensive backs played press coverage and brought the house every play. They did stuff that normal high schools don't do. Most teams in Tennessee,Including Maryville run a 4-3 defense with a cover 2 scheme. Byrnes was zone blitzing. They were running the prowler defense that UT used vs Florida in 2001. South Carolins ran that defense last year. Southern Miss ran that defense for years. Byrnes defense was as impressive as their offense.

Byrnes looked like a college team to me. They were very talented but what impressed me the most was how well coached and disciplined they were. Glades may be more talented but I would bet my house that Byrnes is much better coached. I bet Byrnes beats Glades Central.I wouldn't be surprised that Byrnes beat Glades by 21 points. Check out Byrnes website. Byrnes Rebels

You're right--almost forgot about him. We realistically, out of 15-17 scholarships this year, need about 5 WR's anyways--some will play as freshmen, some will redshirt, and if our recent luck has been any indication--1 or 2 may not qualify. So we need as many guys to say they're coming as we can get. Get quantity of decent quality, and go from there.

And don't call me Craz--you know I ain't no snowballer...
